Symptoms and goals matter as much as the images
Imaging tells part of the story — but understanding how your condition affects your daily life, what you've already tried, and what success looks like to you is just as important. Every new patient evaluation begins with a thorough discussion of symptoms, functional impact, and personal goals before any studies are ordered. The right workup is different for every patient.
Studies used in evaluation
Dr. Wiegand selects studies based on your specific presentation — often combining multiple modalities for the most complete picture. Not every patient needs every study.
Retrograde Urethrogram (RUG)
Contrast X-ray study visualizing the urethra to identify the location, length, and severity of urethral strictures. Essential for surgical planning.
Orlando Health Imaging CentersVoiding Cystourethrogram (VCUG)
Evaluates the bladder and urethra during urination, identifying strictures, reflux, bladder neck abnormalities, and findings not visible at rest.
Orlando Health Imaging CentersCT Urogram
Cross-sectional imaging of the entire urinary tract — kidneys, ureters, and bladder — evaluating obstruction, masses, and anatomical anomalies.
Orlando Health Imaging CentersMRI Pelvis / Urethra
High-resolution soft tissue imaging for complex stricture disease, fistula evaluation, and surgical planning in reoperative or irradiated cases.
Orlando Health Imaging CentersVideourodynamic Studies
Simultaneous functional testing and fluoroscopic imaging of bladder storage and emptying. Includes cystometry, pressure-flow studies, and EMG — the gold standard for neurogenic bladder evaluation.
Tampa General HospitalCystoscopy / Urethroscopy
Direct endoscopic visualization of the urethra and bladder, assessing stricture location, mucosal quality, and bladder pathology in real time.
In Office / ORRenal Ultrasound
Non-invasive assessment of kidney size, drainage, and hydronephrosis — used for baseline upper tract surveillance and post-void residual measurement.
Orlando Health Imaging CentersAntegrade Nephrostogram
Contrast study performed through a nephrostomy tube to evaluate ureteral anatomy, stricture location, and drainage from above — used when retrograde access is not feasible or informative.
Orlando Health Imaging CentersUroflowmetry & Post-Void Residual
Non-invasive measurement of urinary flow rate and residual bladder volume after voiding. A simple, useful baseline measure for obstruction and emptying efficiency.

Ordering & Scheduling
Dr. Wiegand's office coordinates all imaging orders and can assist with scheduling at Orlando Health imaging centers or Tampa General Hospital for videourodynamics. Specific preparation instructions will be explained at the time of ordering — preparation varies by study and will be communicated directly to you.
Sending Us Your Prior Imaging
If you've had imaging performed elsewhere, please request a CD or digital copy from that facility and bring it to your consultation. Outside imaging is often essential for surgical planning and second opinion consultations — Dr. Wiegand will review it personally.
After Your Study
Dr. Wiegand personally reviews all imaging results. Findings will be discussed with you at your follow-up appointment or communicated directly if results require prompt attention. You will not be left waiting without guidance.
Where Studies Are Performed
Most imaging studies are performed at Orlando Health Imaging Centers.
